Global supply dashboard to go live for public access on May 15

KUALA LUMPUR: The Global Supply Crisis Monitoring Dashboard, jointly developed by the Economy Ministry and the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), is expected to be accessible to the public from May 15.

Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said the dashboard is intended to serve as a transparent and easily accessible central reference point for the public to monitor current developments related to the global supply crisis.

"The public version of the dashboard will feature 10 main submenus, including energy, commodities, cost of living, economic performance, foreign exchange rates and trade flows.

"The dashboard is expected to be accessible to the public beginning May 15, 2026," he said at National Economic Action Council's (NEAC) virtual briefing on the global supply crisis, today.

At the same time, Akmal said a special government version will be used as an internal monitoring platform to assess crisis developments, identify early risks and formulate mitigation strategies based on near real-time data.

"This marks an important shift in how the government manages crises by using near real-time data to detect early pressures, coordinate actions and provide clearer information to the public," he said.

Meanwhile, Akmal said NEAC also discussed the World Bank's view that global pressures are occurring in overlapping layers.

He noted that based on the World Bank's assessment, these developments show that price pressures remain concentrated on key commodities that have spillover effects on production costs and the cost of living.

"Therefore, policy responses need to take into account both the direct impact on the people as well as the ripple effects on businesses and supply chains," he said.

In addition, the government welcomed the World Bank's proposal on four priorities for Malaysia, namely ensuring energy supply security, strengthening fiscal space, managing energy demand, and targeting support towards households and businesses that are genuinely affected.

He noted that efforts are underway to coordinate export controls on certain fuels, guarantee the supply of essential goods, manage purchase quotas, promote energy-saving measures and strengthen cooperation with industry players.

"Any policy adjustments will be implemented carefully, in a targeted and temporary manner, with priority given to protecting the people, ensuring supply stability and managing the country's fiscal position responsibly.

"NEAC will continue to update the status of energy and fuel supplies from time to time to ensure domestic needs remain prioritised," he added. - NST
