
KUALA LUMPUR: A moderate earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale struck southern Sumatra at 8.40pm today, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
In a statement on its social media page, MetMalaysia said the tremor was recorded at coordinates 4.7° South and 102.4° East, approximately 102km south of Bengkulu, Indonesia, at a depth of 10km.
The department confirmed that there is no tsunami threat to Malaysia following the seismic event. - nst
