What could these robbers get by robbing from a poor Nasi Lemak seller?

WE OFTEN romanticise these characters who buck to the social norms, such as Robin Hood for robbing from the rich to give to the poor.

But what do we call the bottom dwellers who rob from the poor? Is there a word in the vast English lexicon to even describe such despicable human beings?

It is unbelievable and we need to see it to believe it. In a recent video post by netizen @kamaghul, a poor lady selling Nasi Lemak was robbed by two men on a motorcycle.

One can easily point out that a simple Nasi Lemak seller by the road will have very little to steal in the first place. The lady was a poor choice.

Even worse was the fact that she was actually a single mother with four children too, as pointed out by @kamaghul.

The robbers probably didn’t know about it but would such people care? Unsurprisingly, netizens have some choice words for such heartless monsters.

“Hopefully the two robbers get into an accident and are crushed by a trailer from the front to the back tyre,” said @Jaiyen_nakal while @Khairul5802 hoped they were crushed instead by a lorry carrying pigs.

Then there was @HasbullahHashi8 suggesting that the robbers make their effort worthwhile by robbing the palace, a bank or a government office instead.

Another netizen pointed out that people who robbed such shops are usually drug addicts.

Also, @kibotnmos said it was very shameful that even crippled or people with disabilities can care for their sick parents while able bodied people like these resort to thieving.

The comment section was also filled with support and positivity. For example, @mrfirdausjailan shared the location of the auntie who sold the Nasi Lemak so people could go and patronise her.

Perhaps the best news was the fact that the robber was caught as updated by @kamaghul.

Well, it appears the age-old adage never fails, that crime doesn’t pay. Still, perhaps the most comforting part of the story was not merely the fact that the suspect was eventually caught, but how ordinary Malaysians immediately rallied behind the Nasi Lemak seller.

In a country often divided by  politics, race and endless online arguments, there remains something deeply human about how quickly people unite when the victim is clearly someone struggling honestly to survive.

Robbing the rich may inspire legends and movies, but robbing a single mother selling Nasi Lemak by the roadside only earns one thing, universal disgust.—  Focus Malaysia
