JOHOR BARU: Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said a 'mercenary spyware' attempt was detected on his smartphone.
He received a security alert from Apple about an attempt to compromise a device linked to his personal account.
"I view this matter seriously as it involves data security, communication confidentiality and personal rights, as well as an attempted intrusion into one's private space," he said in a statement released on his official social media channels.
He expressed deep concern over the incident, saying such digital threats represent a direct violation of personal privacy and the integrity of communication.
"I strongly condemn any form of spying, digital intrusion and the misuse of technology for irresponsible purposes," he said.
In response to the security threat, he confirmed he will lodge a police report to ensure a thorough investigation is initiated into the matter.
He said an official complaint will also be submitted to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to facilitate a comprehensive probe into the origins and nature of the intrusion.
He said the legal actions are necessary so that appropriate measures can be taken against those responsible for the attempted breach. - NST
