
JOHOR BARU: The Johor Education Department has assured that it will not compromise on any form of sexual misconduct at educational institutions under its purview following a viral social media post.
In a statement today, the department said several police reports had been lodged, including by the school administration, which led to the arrest of the teacher involved to assist in investigations.
The department urged the police to conduct a professional and thorough investigation into the case so that legal action can be taken if the suspect is proven guilty.
While the investigation is ongoing, the teacher will be temporarily stationed at the District Education Office, it said.
At the same time, the department is collaborating with the Social Welfare Department to ensure the student victim is protected and that their well-being is safeguarded.
The department stressed that strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty of such offences.
Members of the public who face similar incidents are advised to lodge police reports and not withdraw them, ensuring that thorough investigations and strict actions can be executed by the authorities.
It was reported yesterday that allegations involving a primary school teacher in Masai, who was accused of engaging in sexual acts with a Year Six pupil.
The allegations claimed that he had allegedly returned to teaching duties despite multiple reports lodged over the case with police, education authorities and the Public Complaints Bureau (Sispaa) since last year.
Acting Johor police chief Deputy Commissioner Hoo Chuan Huat said police detected the viral post uploaded on Facebook by the account "Mohd Fadli Salleh" yesterday.
"Following this, police received a report at 9pm yesterday from the victim's 37-year-old mother, who said the incident occurred last year in the Seri Alam area" he said in a statement today.
Hoo said acting on information, a team from the Seri Alam district police headquarters Criminal Investigation Department arrested the suspect at 10.30pm yesterday. - NST
