SEREMBAN: A disturbing video has gone viral showing a child left outside at the rear of a house and allegedly being assaulted by a woman believed to be the child's babysitter.
In the social media clip, the incident is said to have taken place in Sendayan.
The footage appears to show the child crying and screaming after being left outside, before the woman exits the house and scolds the child.
The woman is also seen appearing to threaten and slap the child after reopening the door in response to the victim's loud cries.
In the comments section, a woman claimed she often heard the child crying and said she had directed her CCTV cameras towards the neighbour's house.
Seremban district police chief Assistant Commissioner Azahar Abdul Rahim said police have urged the owner of the video to come forward and assist investigations.
He said that as of 5pm, no police report had been lodged regarding the viral video, but checks were ongoing.
"Police have detected the viral video and are verifying the incident. However, so far no report has been made by any individual.
"We are unable to confirm the exact location of the incident, with the video only indicating Sendayan," he said when contacted today.
He added that if the exact location is identified, police can open an official investigation even without a report from the public.
"The exact location must be confirmed so police can go to the scene for checks. However, if this occurred in Seremban, we take it very seriously and will not compromise.
"We also urge members of the public or the owner of the recording to come forward to assist investigations," he said. - NST
