LANGKAWI: A man known as "Bagok", allegedly linked to a drug trafficking syndicate here, arrived at the Langkawi Court Complex at 8.53am today to face charges.
The 47-year-old suspect, handcuffed and dressed in a T-shirt and denim shorts, arrived in a police truck under heavy escort.
The man is believed to be a close associate of a police officer known as "Mr A", who is suspected of masterminding the "Pablo Escobar 2.0" drug syndicate operating in Langkawi.
Kedah police chief Adzli Abu Shah had confirmed the suspect would be charged under Section 39C of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 after testing positive for drugs.
Adzli also said "Mr A" had been immediately transferred within Kedah following investigations into the syndicate.
Following the death of notorious Langkawi drug kingpin Mat Nahar, also known as "Pablo Escobar Langkawi", six years ago, a new organised drug distribution network allegedly emerged in the island resort area under the leadership of "Mr A".
Several members of the previous Mat Nahar syndicate are now believed to be working with "Mr A" after their former leader was killed. - NST
