DAP loyalist Tony Pua has certainly joined the rank of the party’s Seri Kembangan state assemblywoman Wong Siew Ki and stalwart Ronnie Liu Tian Khiew as literally “Enemies of The State” for insinuating that that the latest decree of Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has fallen outside the realm of the Federal Constitution.
This came about after the former three-term DAP lawmaker (two-term Petaling Jaya Utara and one-term Damansara) dampened the ‘party mood’ of rightists who were rejoicing at the latest decree of the Selangor ruler in wanting Wong and Liu to cherish the Rukun Negara spirit by making weekly visit to Dataran Selangor in Shah Alam.

The decree which was widely hailed by the rightist fraternity as signifying “the first ever public reprimand by a Malaysian monarch” became viral with Sultan Sharafuddin’s gesture regarded as symbolising extreme anger (teramat murka) at the derhaka (treacherous) behaviour of Wong and Liu over the pig farming brouhaha.
“(Aside from the public and especially the younger generation), I also urge Selangor state representatives to personally visit Dataran Selangor twice a month to read and understand the meaning of the Rukun Negara as inscribed on this Monument Plaque,” Sultan Sharafuddin had penned in a media statement.
“Specifically to Wong and Liu who was the former Selangor state DAP EXCO nevertheless, I suggest that you visit Dataran Selangor once a week to understand and cherish the Rukun Negara principles in order to become citizens who know how to respect the sovereignty of the royal Institution while maintaining decency and morality.”
‘Police reports trickling in’
In his ‘rebuttal’ which attracted torrent of brickbats from the rightist fraternity. Pua’s stance on the matter is such that while the Rukun Negara should be respected, a line should he drawn as to how much power/authority that a monarch should be yielding.
“I believe ALL Malaysians should carefully read, recite and understand Rukun Negara and the Federal constitution,” the former aide of Lim Guan Eng when the latter was finance minister penned on his Facebook post which has garnered 10K likes, 9.5K comments and 1.6K shares at the time of writing.
We’ve a constitutional monarch. The powers of the monarch vary a little from state to state.
However, by and large, the powers of the monarch are strictly limited to defined aspects such as Malay customs, Islam and constitutional roles such as the appointment of Menteri Besar and approval for the dissolution of the state assemblies.
We don’t live is a system whereby the monarch can issue binding decrees which legislates all aspects of our lives. We’ve the Parliament and state assemblies comprised of representatives elected by the people to make such laws and rulings.
This was when digital creator Muhamad Harris Nasril started to rally his fanbase to lodge multiple police reports against Pua on grounds of 3R (race, religion, royalty) incitement.
“The draft (of the police report) is in the comments section,” penned the pro-UMNO AI video trainer on his FB page. “Don’t be biadap (disrespectful) to our Sultan!”

Regardless if his opinion is a personal one or if it reflects DAP’s stance, police reports have started to trickle in since last night (May 19) from across the land against Pua amid chants for citizenship of the Oxford University graduate in philosophy, politics and economics to be revoked.
