PUTRAJAYA: The Royal Malaysian Customs Department has denied issuing a notice relating to outstanding sales and service tax (SST) regarding investments that went viral recently.
The department informed that a letter entitled "Notis Rasmi Tunggakan Caj Perkhidmatan (SST) 8 Peratus Dalam Pelaburan" is a scam misusing the department's name and official logo to deceive the public into making payments.
"The Customs Department has never issued a letter demading SST payments regarding the release of investment funds as stated," it posted on Facebook today.
The department also reminded the public to not be easily deceived by suspicious letters, calls or messages using the department's name, and advised them not to make payments or share personal details with unknown parties.
All official matters need to be checked through the department's official channels, while further confirmation can be made through the Customs Call Centre at 1-300-888-500. — BERNAMA
