RON97 up 15 sen, unsubsidised RON95 up 20 sen

The price of diesel in West Malaysia will go up by 10 sen from tomorrow, with these prices effective until May 27.

PETALING JAYA:
The prices of RON97 petrol, unsubsidised RON95 as well as diesel in West Malaysia will all go up from tomorrow, says the finance ministry.

The price of RON97 will rise by 15 sen from RM4.70 a litre currently to RM4.85, while unsubsidised RON95 will retail at RM4.07 per litre, up 20 sen from RM3.87.

The price of diesel in West Malaysia will, meanwhile, go up by 10 sen from RM4.87 a litre to RM4.97.

RON95 sold under the BUDI95 scheme will continue to be sold at RM1.99 a litre while diesel in East Malaysia remains fixed at RM2.15 a litre.

Subsidised petrol under the subsidised petrol control system (SKPS) will remain at RM2.05 per litre, while subsidised diesel under the subsidised diesel control system (SKDS) will remain at RM2.15 per litre.

These prices are effective until May 27.

In a statement, the finance ministry said it will spend an estimated RM416 on each Malaysian to subsidise their 200-litre RON95 quota under BUDI95 with the current price.

It added that more than 14 million Malaysians qualify for BUDI95.

It said crude oil prices have reached over US$110 a barrel, a nearly 60% increase compared with US$70 before the Iran war broke out,
while supply disruptions caused by damage to production and refining facilities in the Middle East are still affecting the market.

“The government urges the public to use fuel prudently to help maintain supply stability,” it said.

Nonetheless, it said Putrajaya will continue taking prudent measures to ensure that Malaysians do not fully bear the impact of rising global oil prices. - FMT
