Gardenia to relocate S’pore plant to JB, lay off 141 workers

The company says the move is to enhance operational efficiency and maintain competitiveness amid an increasingly challenging global environment.

Gardenia Foods said it will still have 250 employees in Singapore, which will remain its headquarters for key functions.
PETALING JAYA:
Baked goods manufacturer Gardenia Foods will retrench 141 workers at its Singapore manufacturing plant as it is relocating production to Johor Bahru.

The company said its facility in Pandan Loop would cease production on June 30, The Straits Times reported.

However, it said it would still have 250 employees in Singapore, which will remain its headquarters for key functions.

“The move is part of Gardenia’s ongoing efforts to enhance operational efficiency and maintain competitiveness amid an increasingly challenging global environment,” it said.

Gardenia said the affected workers were informed about the lay-offs in an internal meeting this morning. It said they would receive the appropriate notice period and support.

It also said it was considering transferring eligible employees for other suitable roles within its network of operations. - FMT
