The ex-DAP leader says the visit moved him and made him realise that the Rukun Negara was more than just a set of lines Malaysians memorised in school.

Liu said revisiting the national principles moved him and made him realise that the Rukun Negara was more than just a set of lines Malaysians memorised in school.
Instead, he said, it represented the nation’s collective wisdom, born out of the painful lessons of the May 13, 1969 tragedy to prevent the recurrence of racial conflict, social division, and extremist politics.
“Especially in today’s era, where politics is becoming increasingly emotional and society is increasingly vulnerable to extreme polarisation, one begins to truly appreciate the depth, wisdom, and lasting value of the Rukun Negara,” he said in a Facebook post.
Yesterday, Sultan Sharafuddin advised Liu, a former Selangor executive councillor, and Seri Kembangan assemblyman Wong Siew Ki to visit Dataran Selangor at least once a week to better understand and appreciate the principles of the Rukun Negara.
The ruler said this was so that both of them could become citizens who respect the sovereignty of the royal institution and uphold proper manners.
The statement came amid controversy surrounding Wong and Liu’s response to the sultan’s call for a complete end to pig farming in the state.
Wong attracted brickbats with her proposal for a modern, closed-system pig farming in Selangor, while Liu had urged dissatisfied pig farmers to consider filing a judicial review on the matter. - FMT
