MAKKAH: Five Malaysians were arrested by Saudi's haj security forces for attempting to enter the holy city through unpaved roads and valleys without haj permits, reports said.
According to a report published by the Saudi Gazette, legal action has been initiated against the five for allegedly violating haj regulations.
The General Directorate of Mujahideen was quoted in the report as saying that those who fail to adhere to regulations governing the 2026 haj season would face legal penalties.
In a separate report by the same publication, Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Interior penalised four expatriates and three Saudi citizens for transporting 13 pilgrims into Makkah without haj permits.
The ministry said the group was arrested at entry points into Makkah.
The penalties, the report said, include fines of up to SR100,000 against transporters and anyone involved in the violation, in addition to imprisonment and the publication of offenders' names in local media at their own expense. - NST
