KOTA BARU: Datuk Dr Nik Mohamad Zawawi Salleh today gave his statement to the Kelantan Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JAHEAIK) to assist investigations into his controversial remarks allegedly insulting the companions of Prophet Muhammad.
The Pasir Puteh member of parliament of Pas arrived at the JAHEAIK Enforcement Division office at Balai Islam Lundang here about 10.40am.
He spent about an hour giving his statement before leaving the building.
Speaking to reporters later, Nik Zawawi said he had been called to assist investigations into remarks he made during a recent ceramah.
"After being called by the police recently, today I was called by JAHEAIK to give my statement regarding the same issue.
"I gave my full cooperation to them and hope this matter is resolved," he said.
When asked about continued criticism from certain parties despite his recent public apology, Nik Zawawi said those continuing to condemn him would bear the consequences of their own actions.
It is understood that JAHEAIK's investigation into Nik Zawawi is being conducted under Section 7 of the Syariah Criminal Code Enactment for allegedly distorting Islamic teachings, Section 30 of the same enactment for uttering words that could disrupt public harmony, and Section 120 of the Kelantan Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIK) Enactment for insulting religion.
On May 15, police recorded Nik Zawawi's statement following the controversial remarks.
Several video clips went viral on social media showing Nik Zawawi delivering a ceramah in which he allegedly made remarks insulting the four companions of the Prophet Muhammad. - NST
