
KOTA TINGGI: A company was slapped with a RM20,000 fine by the magistrate's court here after it admitted to displaying smoking-related products without complying with legal requirements under the tobacco control regulations last year.
CKS Retail Sdn Bhd which operates within a supermarket in Bandar Tenggara here, pleaded guilty immediately after the charge was read before magistrate Nurkhalida Farhana Abu Bakar.
The court also issued a warning that a warrant of levy would be executed if the company fails to settle the fine.
The company, listed as the accused, was charged with displaying smoking products in violation of statutory requirements at 11.25am on Oct 1, 2025.
The offence falls under Section 10(1) of the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act, read together with Regulation 6(1) of the Control of Smoking Products (Sales Control) Regulations.
In a separate case at the same court, a 27-year-old business owner was fined RM2,500 or sentenced to one month's jail in default of payment after pleading guilty to failing to properly display mandatory smoking warning notices at his premises.
The accused, Mohamad Fikri Muddasir, owner of Fikri Muddasir Enterprise, committed the offence at 11.10am on July 28, 2025, at a retail shop in the district.
He was charged under the same Act, read with Regulation 7(1) of the Sales Control Regulations, for failing to ensure warning signs were clearly visible at all times as required under the First Schedule.
Prosecution in both cases was conducted by Johor Health Department Mohd Irwan Othman. - NST
