PONTIAN: A 22-year-old man was found dead in a pool of blood after a brutal early morning attack outside an eatery in Pekan Nanas here today.

District police chief Superintendent Hadzrat Hussien Mion Hussain said police were alerted to the scene at 3.53am, by passers-by who claimed a man was lying motionless and drenched in blood in front of the eatery.

The victim had severe injuries to his arms and legs. He was confirmed dead at the scene, Hadzrat said in a statement.

The NST was made to understand that the victim had multiple slash wounds and was believed to have been attacked at the scene.

Hadzrat said the case was classified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code. Investigations are ongoing to determine the motive and identify the culprits.

An operation, codenamed "Op Kejam", has been activated to widen efforts to track down suspects, said Hadzrat.
