Drunk, drugged Malay youths lead a worrying trend, claims netizens

AT 5AM in Malaysia, there are usually only three types of people awake.

The first are aunties preparing nasi lemak for the breakfast crowd. The second are hardworking Malaysians dragging themselves to work while questioning why humans invented capitalism.

The third are football fans who made the terrible decision to watch a European match that ended emotionally and spiritually at 4.47am.

But thanks to a now-viral social media video circulating online, Malaysians have discovered a shocking fourth category: Youths already completely out of order by sunrise.

The clip, shared by netizen @kamaghul showed a good number of youngsters sprawled beside a sidewalk in the morning, looking like their operating systems had abruptly crashed.

They were either too drunk or drugged to continue behaving like a normal human being.

According to @kamaghul, this is the view at 5 am in Kuala Lumpur. He further expressed worry, stating that this is becoming more and more like the countries overseas.

Shockingly, he added that it is the Malay students who love to come to such places.

From the brief video, a keen-eyed observer should be able to notice that most of the scene was filmed at TREC, which plays host to a wide range of clubbing, drink spots.

Netizens have much to say about this current “trend” too. Take it from @fitrimausii who said people will be more surprised to realise that these drunkards are not the Malays from the T20 category, but are more likely from the village.

Netizen @AIGeek007 further claimed that they are the B40 folks who lived in flats that voted for Wan Azizah and Fahmi Fadzil.

“Is this the future that you want for the younger generation?” said @VidaAzur, tagging Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim at the same time.

@_asyrafabubkar continued, saying that the Malays are easily influenced by other cultures.

Another netizen shared that the output of this drunk, wasted culture was the number of lost wallets left on the trees or atop the dividers near his site. Sadly, most were already empty, being stolen by the passerby.

But @SyarulAdam warned that this is not a new trend and that it has been happening since a long time ago.

On our part, we would like to point out that netizen @kamaghul who shared the video did not in any way provide conclusive, unbiased statistical data to determine that Malays in fact make up the majority of these drunkards in the video.

It is one thing to simply record a scene and quickly broad brush that a certain race is indulging in an immoral activity.

It is completely another story to take the painstaking effort and record every single drunkard on the street and tabulate the data into an infographic for a meaningful comparison. —  Focus Malaysia
