PUTRAJAYA, May 22 — Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan has called on Muslims and Malaysians to continue appreciating the spirit of the Rukun Negara, while respecting the royal institution and the nation’s unity.

He said the people should also uphold the Federal Constitution guided by the Quran and sunah, while preserving the balance of power and national harmony for the common good.

“I take heed of the decree of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, and on behalf of all agencies under the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), I extend our utmost appreciation for the advice and reminder conveyed by His Royal Highness.

“The Rukun Negara, which philosophically has been elevated as the preamble to the Federal Constitution and has long served as the foundation of Malaysia, clearly outlines the relationship between the King and the people in preserving the nation’s stability, unity and well-being,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Recently, Sultan Sharafuddin expressed hope that members of the public, especially the younger generation visiting Dataran Selangor in Shah Alam, where the Rukun Negara Monument Plaque is located, would read and appreciate the principles of the Rukun Negara as the foundation of unity among Malaysians.

His Royal Highness also called on all Selangor state assemblymen to visit Dataran Selangor twice a month to read and understand the meaning of the Rukun Negara inscribed on the monument plaque. — Bernama
