“ARE you talking about your own father? “Your father is even worse at betraying the PKR”.
Such was the brickbats directed at PKR women’s wing secretary Sangetha Jayakumar by detractors who could be backers of recently revived BERSAMA (Malaysian United Party) after she slammed six PKR lawmakers for deploying a “two-pond” political strategy.
She named the six who had turned up at former party deputy president Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli’s unveiling of BERSAMA last weekend (May 17) as Rodziah Ismail (Ampang); Wong Chen (Subang); Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik (Balik Pulau); Zahir Hassan (Wangsa Maju); Kesavan Subramaniam (Sungai Siput) and Lee Chean Chung (Petaling Jaya).
“If the idealism and future direction of these individuals are no longer in line with the principles of PKR’s presidential institution and struggle KPIs, the most honourable way is for them to voluntarily relinquish their party membership immediately without having to continue to be a thorn in the flesh,” she asserted in a media statement.
“If this demand is ignored and this treacherous action continues, the PKR’s women’s wing will not hesitate to urge the party’s disciplinary board and its central leadership council (MPP) to take the strictest action, including dismissing their membership in order to maintain the integrity and purity of the party’s struggle.”
In their defence, the six has generally contended that they merely showed up at the BERSAMA unveiling as ‘friends” who were invited by the former economy minister and ex-Pandan MP who has since quit PKR alongside former natural resources and environmental sustainability minister and ex-Setiwangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

‘Short memory, apple polishing’
Recount that former PKR vice-president Datuk Dr Xavier Jayakumar left the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition member to support the Perikatan Nasional (PN) front on March 21, 2021 but he did so by becoming an independent MP rather than formally joining a PN component party.
Xavier cited “extreme frustration” with political events and stated that the country needed stability and bipartisanship to focus on the COVID-19 pandemic and economic recovery rather than holding snap elections.
His departure came shortly after two other PKR lawmakers Larry Sng (Julau) and Steven Choong (Tebrau) also left the party to support the PN government under then eighth premier Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Given the backdrop of her father’s abrupt departure from PKR, it is little wonder that Sangetha has somehow shot herself in the foot by having trained her guns on six party comrades who are known to be part of Rafii-led “Hiruk” camp.

For that she was mocked for her short memory and sheer hypocrisy in her quest to be an apple polisher of the current PKR leadership.

In essence, one seemingly disgruntled ex-PKR member reminded Sangetha that “there will soon be an exodus of PKR members heading to the exit door come GE16 (16th General Election)”.

At the end pf the day, one commenter snubbed the Port Klang Authority board member and law graduate that “there’re simply too many drama actors (read bootlickers) in PKR”.
