KUALA LUMPUR, May 22 — The Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) expects the average daily traffic volume on major expressways and connecting highways to reach 3.3 million vehicles on peak days in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha, which will be celebrated on May 27.
LLM said in a statement that traffic flow is expected to increase progressively from today until June 7 due to the overlap between the festive season, public holidays and the extended school holidays.
It said the PLUS highway network is projected to record the highest traffic volume at 2.2 million vehicles, followed by the Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE) with 283,000 vehicles and the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway (KLK) with 209,000 vehicles.
“To ensure safer and smoother journeys for road users throughout the festive period, LLM has instructed all highway concessionaires to implement several proactive measures, including prohibiting lane closures except for emergency works from May 23 to June 2,” it said.
LLM would also be activating 34 Smart Lane locations, including along the PLUS highway network, while ensuring that toll collection systems function efficiently, including staggered toll collection at critical toll plazas.
Operational inspections of highways and facilities would also be conducted at Rest and Service Areas (R&R) and lay-bys, provision of 65 portable toilets, as well as additional parking spaces and personnel, including RELA members, at affected locations.
LLM advised road users to plan their journeys using the TuJu application and Travel Time Advisory (TTA), ensure their vehicles are in good condition and maintain sufficient balance in their Touch ’n Go accounts, e-wallets and debit cards before starting their journey.
In addition, motorcyclists are reminded to exercise extra caution and make use of the 571 motorcycle shelters provided in the event of bad weather.
Road users can also obtain real-time traffic and incident updates through LLM’s official channels and related applications. — Bernama
