PKR ‘unshaken’ by Rafizi, Nik Nazmi exits, says youth chief

 Kamil Munim says the party has weathered similar political crises before, including the Sheraton Move, and remains strong.

PKR is not shaken by the departure of former deputy president Rafizi Ramli and vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, says youth chief Kamil Munim.

Kamil said leaders leaving the party was not unusual, noting that PKR had endured several political upheavals since its formation, including the Sheraton Move, which saw many leaders quit, Sinar Harian reported.

He said many had believed that PKR would be “fully paralysed” by the crisis in 2020.

“But it turned out to be untrue in the 15th general election when we managed to form a government and (party president) Anwar Ibrahim was made the prime minister,” he was quoted as saying at a press conference in Kota Bharu.

Kamil said the party was continuing to attract new members, including some who had previously left PKR.

On May 17, Rafizi and Nik Nazmi announced they were leaving PKR and relinquishing their parliamentary seats to take over Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama).

Their departure has since triggered a wave of resignations and defections.

Reports indicate that 19 committee members from the Pandan PKR Youth division, including the wing’s deputy chief Haqimi Zamri, resigned to align with Rafizi.

Nearly 2,000 PKR members in Johor left the party to join Bersama’s state chapter, which has set up a pro-tem committee comprising former PKR state and division leaders, including former Tiram assemblyman S Gopalakrishnan. - FMT
