A 34-year-old man with a criminal record for 11 prior offences was charged with trying to snatch a woman's phone and bag in a hospital parking area.

Cheras police chief Rosdi Daud said the sentence was meted out by the court yesterday after the 34-year-old man pleaded guilty to a charge of attempted robbery, Berita Harian reported.
He said that in the 11.30am incident on May 18, the suspect acted aggressively by opening the victim’s car door and attempting to snatch her mobile phone and bag.
“During the struggle, the victim started screaming for help. The suspect then fled on a motorcycle empty-handed,” he said.
Acting on a police report, a team from the Cheras police headquarters’ serious crime investigation division arrested the suspect at 5.36pm last Wednesday in Brickfields. Checks revealed he had a criminal record for 11 prior offences.
The suspect was remanded for two days before being charged in court yesterday.
Police also seized a motorcycle, a jacket and a helmet believed to have been used in the incident. - FMT
