Don't drag us into your party's factional war, Rafizi tells Pua

Rafizi Ramli has urged DAP veteran Tony Pua to stay in his lane and not drag other parties into DAP's internal conflict.

This followed the former Damansara MP's recent outburst, in which he labelled PKR lawmakers loyal to Rafizi as "self-serving chickens" for refusing to vacate their seats and join Rafizi's Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama).

Speaking on a KiniTV podcast, Rafizi claimed there is a factional fight between two groups in DAP, and this was shown in Pua's attack.

According to him, Pua supposedly belongs to a minority faction in DAP that hopes to see the coalition government collapse, whereas the party's mainstream group led by its secretary-general Anthony Loke wants to keep the Pakatan Harapan-led administration intact.

"That is why the reactions from (two leaders in) DAP are the opposite of each other, because it symbolises the view of two opposing groups in the party.

"The reactions cannot only be read explicitly, but also what was implied," the former PKR deputy president said.

Also present during the podcast was former PKR vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

On May 17, Rafizi and Nik Nazmi announced taking over Bersama and vacating their parliamentary seats.

Six other PKR MPs also attended the event but did not quit the party or relinquish their seats.

Spillover effect

While Loke said Rafizi and Nik Nazmi should have waited until the end of their term as MPs before joining a new movement, Pua lambasted those who refused to follow the duo's footsteps.

"So, what happened here is actually a spillover from the factional fight in DAP. Please leave us out of it," Rafizi said during the “Explain Sikit” podcast, aired on Saturday evening.

The former economy minister also stressed that he and Nik Nazmi decided to vacate their seats out of respect for the democratic process, where they were elected as the Pandan and Setiawangsa MPs, respectively, under the PKR banner.

However, Rafizi added, they also wanted to balance their move with the need to maintain the stability of the current government.

He said if all MPs aligned with him resigned from PKR and vacated their seats, it could risk a “tebuk atap” (backdoor government) situation. - FMT
