MAHB: SIA flight tyre issue occurred in Singapore, not after landing at KLIA

KUALA LUMPUR: A Singapore Airlines (SIA) flight which experienced a tyre issue last Sunday encountered the problem during its departure from Singapore, and not after landing at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) said.

It also said the incident was not caused by foreign object debris or any runway condition at KLIA.

MAHB said the flight experienced a tyre burst during departure from Changi Airport, but the pilot decided to continue the journey to KLIA.

"Upon arrival, the flight landed safely on Runway 1 after the pilots declared a local standby.

"Established emergency and operational response procedures were immediately activated, and all passengers and baggage were safely disembarked and processed within a short period," it said.

MAHB also said investigations into the root cause of the incident are ongoing and are being led by Singapore Airlines, with the participation of the airline, aircraft manufacturer, tyre manufacturers, engineering specialists and relevant airport authorities.

The New Straits Times has reached out to MAHB for further information.

It was reported that Flight SQ113 from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore was delayed by about six hours on Sunday after the aircraft experienced tyre issues after landing at KLIA.

The flight, scheduled to depart KLIA at 2.35pm, eventually took off at 8.27pm with 143 passengers and eight crew members on board.

The flight arrived in Singapore at 9.38pm.

A SIA spokesman, quoted by Singapore's The Straits Times, said two tyres on a Boeing 737-8 aircraft operating Flight SQ114 from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur had deflated after landing at KLIA. - NST
