The Mutiara LRT project in Penang is proceeding as scheduled, said the Transport Ministry, with 8.99 percent of the overall works completed.
The LRT line is expected to commence operations in December 2031, Bernama quoted the ministry in its parliamentary reply to RSN Rayer (Harapan-Jelutong).
The value of losses due to online scams increased drastically from RM1.57 billion in 2024 to RM2.97 billion last year. For the first five months of 2026, losses incurred reached RM830 million.
The Home Ministry said in its parliamentary reply to Ronald Kiandee (PN-Beluran) that most of the losses are due to scams involving non-existent investment schemes, followed by telecommunications crime and love scams.
The ministry also expressed its commitment to combating online crimes by strengthening the operation of the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC), which has seized RM32.49 million in fraud victim funds since 2022 and returned RM10.9 million.
“Based on statistics from 2022 to 2025, the amount seized totalled RM25.2 million, with 29 percent or RM7.3 million of which was successfully returned to the victims, while for the period January to May 2026, a total of RM7.25 million in funds was seized with RM3.57 million or 49 percent returned to the victims.
“The increase in the percentage of funds returned proves that NSRC’s function is becoming more effective and is increasingly trusted by the people,” Bernama quoted the ministry as saying. - Mkini
