Caretaker Johor menteri besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi today pledged that BN will not form a coalition government with other parties if it is again given the mandate to govern the state.
Speaking at the announcement of Johor BN candidates for the 16th state election, Onn (above) said they will remain steadfast in their decision to contest independently.
“Therefore, to reaffirm the stand and resolve that we have collectively decided upon, regardless of the path we may have to take in the future, this position will remain firm and unchanged.
“We will see it through to the very end,” he said at the Johor Umno headquarters in Johor Bahru.
Onn also defended BN’s refusal to cooperate with DAP, stressing that it was based on differences in political approach and ideology, rejecting claims that it was based on racial grounds.
He pointed out that BN has endured severe criticism following the announcement.
“Our refusal to cooperate with parties such as DAP has led to us being labelled arrogant, conceited, and even racist simply because our political stance differs. The politics of demonisation has begun to creep into this state.
“BN continues to be vilified and portrayed as an enemy or the source of every problem. We have been bombarded with slander and allegations that we had never even heard before,” he said.

Onn added that BN represents all communities - including Malays, Chinese, Indians, bumiputera, and other ethnic groups.
Heavy responsibility
Meanwhile, addressing the BN candidates, Onn reminded them that their nominations should not be viewed as rewards but as a heavy responsibility entrusted by the people.
He also appealed to unselected party members to continue supporting BN’s election campaign, stressing that the coalition’s struggle was bigger than any individual or position.
“The one contesting may be a single candidate, but the victory belongs to all of us, the entire BN team,” Onn stressed.
He also said BN would continue to offer Johoreans a stable government with clear principles, vision, and administration capable of carrying forward the Maju Johor 2030 agenda.
He urged voters to judge BN based on its track record, achievements, and plans for the future rather than looking back.
“Let us move forward together as Bangsa Johor, united and resolute in defending every inch of this blessed land of Johor Darul Ta’zim,” Onn said. - Mkini
