KUALA LUMPUR: Police are investigating a case involving a red Proton Aruz that was allegedly driven dangerously before crashing along Jalan Kepong earlier this month.
Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department director Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said police had detected a viral one-minute video on social media showing the vehicle involved in an accident.
He said the incident occurred around 12.30am on June 6 and involved a 26-year-old man.
"Preliminary investigations found that the driver was believed to have lost control of the vehicle after the front right and rear left tyres burst, causing the car to skid and crash into the road divider.
"The incident resulted in damage to the front section of the vehicle, including the bumper, bonnet, headlights, fender and rims, as well as the front and rear tyres," he said in a statement today.
Zamzuri said that around 1.15am on the same day, a mobile patrol vehicle team from the Sentul district police headquarters detected the same vehicle being driven suspiciously and dangerously along Jalan Kepong while conducting crime prevention patrols.
He said the vehicle was later stopped in front of premises on Jalan Barat, Jinjang Utara.
"Further checks found that the driver had no prior criminal record, while a urine screening test returned negative.
"The vehicle was also seized for further investigation.
"Police also confirmed that the viral video is related to the same incident, and a police report was lodged on June 8 after the vehicle was detained," he said.
Zamzuri said the case is being investigated under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 for failing to control a vehicle resulting in an accident.
Those with information are urged to contact the Tun H.S. Lee traffic police station at 03-2071 9999 or the nearest police station. - NST
