When lovemaking becomes a community event; couple moans so loud everyone heard them

FOR RESIDENTS of a low-cost apartment block, community living usually means sharing parking woes, hearing babies cry at odd hours and occasionally arguing over whose slippers are blocking the corridor.

But one residential area recently discovered there is another thing that can be shared among neighbours: the soundtrack of someone’s extremely active love life.

A social media video has set the internet laughing after a neighbour’s enthusiastic bedroom performance apparently became so loud that it echoed across much of the apartment block.

In a landed neighbourhood, such sounds might be confined to one or two unlucky households.

In a high-density low-cost flat, however, acoustics work differently. What starts as a private moment in one unit can quickly become a public broadcast for dozens, if not hundreds, of residents.

Forget Netflix. Forget Spotify. One can only imagine the reactions throughout the block. The auntie watering her plants probably paused mid-spray.

The uncle watching television likely had to increase the volume by three notches. Children may have asked uncomfortable questions.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp neighbourhood groups were probably working overtime trying to determine whether someone was in distress or simply having the time of their life.

The incident also highlights a unique reality of apartment living. Thin walls have long been the great equaliser of urban life. You may not know your neighbour’s name.

But you might know exactly when they move furniture, argue with their spouse or decide to celebrate their relationship with Olympic-level enthusiasm.

However, netizen @PedangKloud who watched the video expressed scepticism, stating that someone was probably watching pornography and turning up the volume.

He added that this sounds like Japanese porn. Perhaps the next pertinent question that we are all going to ask @PedangKloud was, “How does he know that it is Japanese porn?”

The man sounds like he has experience. Another netizen pointed out that the original scene was at a hotel, and that this was just noise.

Also, @squarelzzz claimed that this was an old video, that the person who posted this was merely stealing content from someone else.

Likely, no one will be authenticating this “content” and allegations either. Assuming it is true, there is nothing wrong with couples expressing affection. The challenge begins when the entire block becomes an unintended audience.

Privacy, after all, is a two-way arrangement. You keep your private activities private, and your neighbours refrain from becoming accidental witnesses to them.

While love may be blind, it apparently does not always come with a volume control. For the residents of that apartment block, one thing is certain.

They may never meet the mystery couple. But thanks to this one unforgettable day, they will probably recognise their voices anywhere. — Focus Malaaysia
