PETALING JAYA: MCA made a winning return at the Negri Sembilan state election, capturing at least two of the seven seats it contested under the Barisan Nasional banner, with victories in Chennah and Repah.
According to unofficial results, MCA's Siow Kong Choon defeated DAP secretary-general and Transport Minister Anthony Loke in Chennah after polling 5,593 votes to Loke's 5,060, giving the Barisan Nasional candidate a 533-vote majority.
In Repah, MCA's Koh Kim Swee unseated Pakatan Harapan incumbent Veerapan Superamaniam, winning 10,149 votes against his opponent's 9,148 for a majority of 1,001 votes.
In a Facebook post at about 8pm, Siow thanked voters, campaign workers, volunteers, supporters and family members for their prayers, support and sacrifices throughout the campaign.
"Let us now respect the democratic process and await the official results in an orderly manner," he said.
Koh, better known as Ah Swee, also thanked voters for their support.
"It has been a night filled with emotion and spirit. I would like to thank everyone.
"People of Tampin, let us work together to develop the hometown that we love," he said in a Facebook post.
MCA returned to the Negri Sembilan state election after sitting out the 2023 polls. In the 2018 general election, the party contested 10 state seats but did not win any.
Under Barisan Nasional's seat-sharing arrangement, MCA contested seven of the state's 36 seats. Besides Siow in Chennah and Koh in Repah, the party also fielded candidates in Bahau, Nilai, Temiang, Rahang and Chuah. - Star
