Next N Sembilan MB should be sworn in before Tuanku Muhriz, says lawyer

 

N SEMBILAN POLLS | The next Negeri Sembilan menteri besar should be sworn in before Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, said lawyer Rafique Rashid Ali.

He said that despite the dispute over Tuanku Muhriz’s status as the Yang di-Pertuan Besar, the current legal position remained unchanged due to an injunction granted by the Seremban High Court.

Rafique also pointed out that Tuanku Muhriz was the ruler who consented to the dissolution of the Negeri Sembilan state assembly on June 4.

“In my opinion, (the next menteri besar) shall and must get an audience before the Yamtuan who consented to the state assembly dissolution.

“The dissolution was valid. And after the assembly was dissolved, all parties entered and campaigned in the state election. This is what we call ‘tacit approval’ on the position of the Yamtuan Besar.

“There is also the decision by the Seremban High Court, which thus far ordered an injunction in a case that was filed in court. So, there is a status quo,” the lawyer said in a statement on Facebook.

“Our country has laws. It is also applicable in Negeri Sembilan,” Rafique, who is also the Pejuang information chief, added.

Royal dispute clouds swearing-in

Tuanku Muhriz’s position has been disputed since the state’s four territorial chieftains announced in April that they had unanimously decided to remove him.

The dispute escalated after the Undang Yang Empat, together with the tunku besar of Tampin and datuk syahbandar, proclaimed Tunku Nadzaruddin Tuanku Ja’afar as the new Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.

This raised questions over whether the state election victors would present their menteri besar candidate to Tuanku Muhriz or Tunku Nadzaruddin.

Rumours also circulated that should BN win tonight, the swearing-in ceremony would be held before Tunku Nadzaruddin at Serting Palace in Bahau instead of Seri Menanti.

However, Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan denied the claim, saying it was a false narrative spread by political rivals.

“This is outside of my knowledge. It is just a narrative by those who try to mount psychological warfare against BN so the rakyat will be angry with us.

“I do not know of any such plan. It’s just psychological warfare, and I hope the rakyat won’t fall for it,” he said, as quoted by Utusan Malaysia. - Mkini
