Harapan candidate alleges collusion after BN campaign paper seen in polling room

• Pakatan Harapan’s Jeram Padang candidate G Manivannan has accused a returning officer of colluding with his BN challenger, after discovering a voter carrying a paper with the BN logo into the polling room.

  PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil shared a brief video showing Manivanan in a classroom, confronting Election Commission officers on duty, while holding the paper printed with BN’s campaign slogan.

  “We need to be honest. Whoever wins or loses is not the issue, but how can you allow this to happen?” said Manivannan, who said he observed multiple voters bringing the same paper distributed by the BN campaign machinery.

  In a statement, the former Kapar MP said the incident occurred at 2.45pm and that he has submitted a formal objection to the EC.

  When contacted, EC deputy chairperson Azmi Sharom told Malaysiakini, “If any breach of election laws were observed, a police report ought to be made.”

Teacher’s death

• The Selangor State Education Department will extend its full cooperation to the police in the investigation of a female teacher’s death at a school in Hulu Selangor yesterday.

  It said its focus is to ensure the best possible assistance for the teacher’s family, while psychosocial support services are also being provided specifically to help affected members of the school community.

  “The public is urged to respect the family’s privacy by refraining from spreading unverified information that could interfere with the ongoing investigation,” it said in a statement, as reported by Bernama.

  Earlier, the media reported that police received an emergency call at 7.15am regarding a teacher who was found unconscious at the school before the woman was confirmed dead.

National Day

• Visitors to the 2026 National Day celebration at Dataran Putrajaya on Aug 31 have been urged to responsibly dispose of rubbish at designated places to ensure the celebration area remains clean.

  Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh said she did not want a repeat of the incident where Dataran Merdeka was full of trash after the World Cup final match viewing party.

  “Maintaining cleanliness is a shared responsibility and not solely the responsibility of Putrajaya Corporation to collect rubbish after an event.

  “Imagine coming to celebrate National Day, but when we leave, the area is filled with rubbish.

  “I think that would be inappropriate, and I urge everyone attending to dispose of their rubbish at the designated places,” she said in Putrajaya, according to Bernama. - Mkini
