Netizens think Ismail Sabri’s sickness was too timely to avoid court order

 

FORMER prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who is expected to face charges at the Sessions Court today (Aug 7), has been admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN), according to sources familiar with the matter.

The sources said the court proceedings could instead be conducted at IJN, subject to the medical advice provided by his doctors.

“The decision will depend on the doctor’s recommendation,” one source said to The Star media.

A separate source close to Ismail Sabri also confirmed that the former premier is currently receiving treatment at IJN.

“Based on the latest information, his plea is likely to be recorded at IJN. The exact timing has yet to be confirmed. 

According to the source, the Deputy Public Prosecutor must first apply for the proceedings to be held there, but the final decision rests with the judge.

On another note, netizens are quite sceptical about his illness which came right at the time when he was called to court. 

On a post on X, @Meranti99 noted that he looked healthy when campaigning for Johor while @XWMLight added that this was a typical BN, UMNO drama script.

“Najib have bigger balls,” pointed out @AndriyAsuad. Then there was a sarcastic @uliang6482 asking if they could just resort to a virtual meeting instead.

“By now, should consider moving the courts to IJN,” lamented @MazlinaTahir.

 Returning to the  news at hand, the charges are believed to stem from investigations into Ismail Sabri’s asset declaration.

He has previously been called in several times by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to assist investigations by recording his statement.

Earlier, the MACC disclosed that it had seized RM170 mil in cash, comprising various foreign currencies, along with 16kg of gold bullion worth about RM7 mil during raids on several premises.

The raids followed the arrests of four senior officers linked to Ismail Sabri in February 2025 as part of the commission’s ongoing investigation.
