Talks with BN on Melaka seats ongoing, says Hadi

The PAS president says negotiations will take into account the fact that BN did not win any parliamentary seats in Melaka in GE15.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s statement that BN is seeking to defend all 21 state seats it holds in Melaka reflected Zahid’s personal view and that negotiations were ongoing.
PETALING JAYA:
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang says Perikatan Nasional (PN) has begun preliminary talks with Barisan Nasional (BN) on seat allocations for the upcoming Melaka state election.

He said both sides would work towards a mutually agreed formula for cooperation, taking into account the fact that BN did not win any parliamentary seats in Melaka in the last general election.

“The Melaka state assembly has yet to be dissolved, but discussions, especially on Malay-Muslim unity, are ongoing. PN and BN are working to unite the Malays and safeguard their interests,” he was quoted by Berita Harian as saying at Masjid Rusila today.

Hadi was responding to BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who said BN was seeking to defend all 21 seats it currently holds in the upcoming Melaka state election.

Hadi said the statement reflected Zahid’s personal view and that negotiations were still ongoing.

Previously, Zahid said BN remained open to reaching an understanding with any party, similar to the arrangement made for the Negeri Sembilan polls.

The current term of the Melaka state assembly ends in December, unless it is dissolved earlier. An election must be held within 60 days of dissolution, or by late February at the latest. - FMT
