Panic at airport as car crashes into departure hall at KKIA

No one else was injured when the woman’s SUV crashed into the terminal entrance at about 4.20pm.

A woman was injured after her car crashed into the departure hall at Kota Kinabalu airport at about 4.20pm today, causing panic among people at the terminal.

The glass entrance was damaged and debris was scattered across the passenger walkway. However, there were no injuries to passengers or airport staff. The woman driver was taken to hospital for treatment, the Borneo Post reported.

Initial information suggested that the driver may have accidentally stepped on the accelerator, losing control of the vehicle before crashing into the terminal entrance.

Videos circulating on social media showed a white SUV with heavy damage to its front end lodged at the entrance, with broken glass scattered around the area.

Kota Kinabalu police chief Shahrudin Mat Husain said investigations were under way to determine the cause of the crash. - FMT
