Dr M at IJN for observation

 The 101-year-old former prime minister was admitted to IJN yesterday.

Dr Mahathir Mohamad has a history of heart ailments and underwent heart bypass operations in 1989 and 2007.

Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) to be placed under observation, says his son, Mokhzani.

Mokhzani said the 101-year-old was admitted to IJN yesterday, Bernama reported.

A spokesman for Mahathir’s office, Sufi Yusoff, said the former prime minister was well and resting at IJN.

Mahathir’s wife, Dr Hasmah Ali, died at IJN on Monday morning at the age of 100. She was accorded a state funeral and laid to rest at Pusara Negara in Putrajaya.

Her death was followed by a wave of tributes, with many highlighting her warmth and grace as well as her contributions to the nation.

Mahathir said he was not expecting Hasmah to die as she appeared well the day before.

Mahathir has a history of heart ailments and underwent heart bypass operations in 1989 and 2007.

In January, he suffered a hip fracture after a fall at home. He underwent physiotherapy treatment instead of going for a surgery due to his age. - FMT
