Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak said the National Civics Bureau (BTN) was formed with specific objectives to mould Malaysians that can ensure the government’s continuity.
As such, he said BTN remains relevant and must continue to play its role in the next general election and more to come.
“BTN was formed with a certain role and specific objectives to contribute in moulding the spirit amongst Malaysians that guarantees a government that can ensure continuity in leadership and holds on to power in the name of race, religion and country.
“Based on this spirit, BTN must be maintained. BTN remains relevant and continues to play a role to this day and should continue doing so in the 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th general elections for us to ensure victory,” he said in a speech at the BTN Academy in Kuala Lumpur today.
The function was to celebrate the various agencies within the Prime Minister’s Department.
In his speech, Najib also said that the current generation, particularly the millennials, was lucky as they did not need to face the struggles of the past.
“The generation today is luckier, more educated and more well to do. Why?
“It is a product of the government’s struggle,” he added.
BTN was formed in 1981 to instil patriotism particularly through the education system and civil service.
However, critics have accused the agency of propagating racism and bigotry within the context of maintaining the current government.
