Amanah strategy director Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad says now that the top leadership of Pakatan Harapan has been named, and what it wants to achieve announced, PH can take over and provide stability and growth.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malays need not fear that their world will end without Umno president Najib Razak and Umno to lead the nation, Parti Amanah Negara strategy director Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said today.
This is because Pakatan Harapan (PH) has finally resolved the “seemingly difficult and unending problem” of leadership structure and organisation.
Umno leaders have been telling the Malays that if the opposition comes to power, DAP will rule the country and that the rights of Malays will be sidelined.
Dzulkefly said in a statement that with Dr Mahathir Mohamad named as chairman and Anwar Ibrahim named de facto leader of PH, the opposition coalition now has the “renewed legendary combination of two towering figures that once led the nation as one of the Tigers of Asia”.
“We want to be back on that trajectory to attain our lost position and competitiveness,” he added.
He said this combination also provided and exuded “comfort and care” for all Malaysians, cutting across all races, religions and cultures.
Describing the decision as “momentous” and “historic,” Dzulkefly said the opposition coalition could now mount a serious challenge to unseat the BN government.
PH yesterday also named Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as the president, assisted by three deputies, Muhyiddin Yassin (PPBM), Lim Guan Eng (DAP) and Mohamad Sabu (Amanah).
PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali and his PPBM counterpart Mukhriz Mahathir were named as vice-presidents, along with DAP’s Chong Chieng Jen and Amanah’s Salahuddin Ayub.
Former deputy minister Saifuddin Abdullah is the chief secretary.
The announcement came a month after speculation over the leadership structure of the new coalition, which will see the four opposition parties for the first time going to the polls using a common logo.
Dzulkefly said: “A thorough perusal (of the leadership lineup) will reflect a solid front which embodies inclusivity, equity and a good combination of all the strengths we can garner from the four component parties.”
PH now needs to put in place a strong and functional election machinery as soon as possible, he said.
More importantly, he said, PH had spelt out clearly what it intended to do in the first 100 days of winning the 14th general election.
“The coalition pact will abolish GST, stabilise petrol price, focus on alleviating the people’s burden, address the perennial problem of youth unemployment, fight corruption from top to bottom, establish a royal commission to investigate the 1MDB scandal and rejuvenate the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) which, like some others, has allegedly been beset with financial woes and endemic mismanagement.” -FMT
