Woman files police report claiming headmistress of vernacular school in Alor Gajah 'violently caned' her daughter for not passing up homework.
PETALING JAYA: A headmistress at a vernacular school in Alor Gajah has come under fire from a woman who claims her daughter was caned until she bled, The Star reported.
The parent of the student lodged a police report yesterday over the “violent caning” which occurred on June 22.
According to the woman, who is a 38-year-old housewife, her daughter who is eight years old, was bleeding from her back due to the caning, with some swelling near the spine, as well.
Having gone to the school to demand an explanation, she was told to return on July 3, after the Hari Raya school holidays.
“I was told to come back after Hari Raya break on July 3 to meet her again, but was treated impolitely by the headmistress,” she was quoted as saying by the daily.
She added that the headmistress even told her to “take whatever further action she wished”.
“I was told that the caning was warranted as my daughter failed to pass up her homework and that is why I made the police report on July 4,” she said, adding that her daughter has been too traumatised by the caning to go to school after the Raya break.
The filing of the report has also been confirmed by Alor Gajah OCPD Supt A Asmadi Abd Aziz who said an investigation has been initiated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means.
“We will pass the investigation papers to the deputy public prosecutor for the next course of action,” he was quoted as saying by The Star.
Meanwhile, a state official said that this was not the first case involving the headmistress and promised to take the necessary action.
State education, higher learning, science and green technology committee chairman Md Yunos Husin said his office would be lodging a report against the headmistress as well. -FMT
