Police have confirmed that a suspect, alleged to be a political party member, will be called in for questioning today for an alleged sex crime involving a waitress at a carpark in Lebuh Pantai, George Town.
Northeast district police chief Anuar Omar said the suspect will be investigated under Section 354 of the Penal Code for outraging the modesty of the woman on July 6.
It is learnt that the suspect, a one-time councillor who was dropped from his post before the 2013 national polls, is currently a special assistant to a state assemblyperson in Penang.
The 21-year-old victim had lodged a report at the Lebuh Pantai police station about the incident on July 7.
