THE unveiling of Pakatan Harapan’s logo has become the object of ridicule among some people because the navigator symbol which is used to form an “A” in the word “Harapan” is similar to the Star Trek logo.
The opposition coalition president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, however, took the criticism with a smile.
“Star Trek? What’s wrong with that?” said Dr Wan Azizah.
Does that mean PH will boldly go where no Malaysian has gone before?
She said defeating Barisan Nasional would be akin to that famous tagline of the American science fiction franchise.
“It’s a bit like that (the tagline) because no one has defeated BN before,” she said.
She said the symbol could be interpreted in many ways, but to PH it symbolised the opposition’s hopes to change the government.
She also dismissed talk that the colour red used in the logo showed that PH was being dominated by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia(PPBM).
“Red is a general colour. It symbolises victory, bravery,” said Dr Wan Azizah.
She said the logo was created to attract public attention.
She was speaking to the media at her Hari Raya Open House at her Kajang state constituency today.
Amanah president Mohamad Sabu and Bersatu chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad were also there.
Amanah, PKR, Bersatu and DAP formed the opposition coalition called Pakatan Harapan to take on the Prime Minister Najib Razak-led Barisan Nasional in the next general election.
Najib is president of the oldest political party in Malaysia, Umno.
Umno, along with other BN component parties, like MCA and MIC, has administered Malaysia with almost a free hand since independence in 1957.
However, it is facing declining support, with a resurgent opposition denying BN its traditional two-thirds majority since the 2008 general election.
