Pakatan Harapan Youth has said that it is expecting about 100,000 participants to attend the Oct 14 anti-kleptocracy rally.
“We want as many Malaysians as possible (to attend the rally).
“We are estimating about 100,000 people will show up on Oct 14,” said Amanah Youth deputy chief Faiz Fadzil, who is the technical director of the rally called “Love Malaysia, Eradicate Kleptocracy”.
He also revealed that they have submitted their application to the Petaling Jaya city council (MBPJ), as the rally is to be held at Padang Timor in Petaling Jaya.
The deputy director of the rally, DAP Socialist Youth’s (Dapsy) Howard Lee said they will also be notifying the police of the rally, as stipulated under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.
“The application (to MBPJ) has been sent. The police will be notified. If we encounter any obstacle, we will do another press conference,” he said.
However, Faiz said, there should not be any resistance from the police as this would be a peaceful rally.
Booths for traders as well
Speeches from the top leadership of Pakatan Harapan, NGOs and civil societies have been planned for the rally, which is slated to start at 4pm on Oct 14.
Faiz also said there will be other activities planned during the rally, food trucks will be available and they have prepared 30 booths for traders as well.
In the lead-up to the rally, the Pakatan Harapan Youth also intends to hold flash mobs throughout the country as part of its campaign to promote the rally.
“This rally is not only just a gathering, but it is also to show our Malaysian spirit,” he said.
The Youth wing also announced that T-shirts for the rally would be sold at RM15 each and it encouraged the usage of four hashtags on social media during the rally.
The hashtags are #1014, #sayangiMalaysia, #hapuskleptokrasi and #malaysiakitapunya.
The demands of the anti-kleptocracy rally include a clean government, candidates free of corruption as well as the confiscation of ill-obtained wealth and to use the money to build schools and hospitals.
Another demand is for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, his stepson Riza Aziz and businessman Jho Low to be charged over the 1MDB scandal.
Najib has denied abusing public funds for personal gain and has been cleared of wrongdoing by attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali.
The prime minister has blamed the allegations on those conspiring to topple him from power.- Mkini
