‘MUSLIMS OPPRESSED IN THEIR OWN LAND’: IN MORE SIGNS OF A SECRET PACT WITH NAJIB, PAS SEES ‘TURNING POINT FOR ISLAMIC REVIVAL’ IN GE14

A MUSLIM revival will carry PAS to its next political peak in the 14th general election, said party information chief Nasrudin Hassan.

Nasrudin was speaking to tens of thousands of supporters last night at a carnival-like event in Kuala Terengganu that PAS calls Fastaqim 2.0.

He said the party looked set take advantage of the “nine-year political cycle” that began in 1990, when PAS through its alliance with the Umno splinter party, Semangat 46, snatched Kelantan from Barisan Nasional (BN).

“If 1990 was the year of Tengku Razaleigh (Hamzah) wave, if 1999 was the Reformasi wave, if 2008 was the Chinese tsunami, then God willing, 2017 or early 2018 will see an Islamic revival that will return the seat of power to the Muslim faithful,” he said to cries of God is great from the audience.

Nasrudin, who is also organising chairman of the fastaqim, claimed that Muslims in the country had been “oppressed”, referring to PAS president Hadi Awang’s much-criticised bid to strengthen shariah court punishments by tabling a motion in parliament.

“Muslims have been subjugated in their own land. You can see this as we fought to amend the Shariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act (Act 355). This act has nothing to do with non-Muslims. A total of 139 of 222 members of parliament are Muslim, yet motion to amend Act 355 remains a question mark.”

“The 14th general election won’t be long from now and we believe it will be a turning point where we will see an Islamic revival.”

Heavy rain at the event’s venue in Pantai Tok Jembal last night did not dampened the spirits of thousands of party supporters, who had began converging since early afternoon.

The ceramah was supposed to have feature speeches about solidarity with the Rohingya community, but they took a different tone as the night progressed as more speakers began to attack critics of the Islamist party.

An anticipated appearance by former Selangor menteri besar Khalid Ibrahim also did not materialise.

When asked whether Khalid will be one of the “national figures” that will join the party, Nasrudin declined to elaborate.

“He (Khalid) will appear tomorrow (tonight) at 8pm or 8.30pm. He had to return quickly due to an engagement in Indonesia,” he said last night.

Former Perak PKR chairman Mustafa Kamil Ayub also spoke last night, praising the Hadi’s leadership.

Mustafa, who also heads the Kongress Rakyat group, said he supported “PAS’s mature politics”.

“The crisis faced by the people today is caused by the lack of quality leaders. In my opinion, Tuan Guru Haji Hadi, who is also deputy world Ulama chief, has the number one source of strength for Muslims in this country,” he said.

Meanwhile, Wan Asshima Kamaruddin, chairman of the Alifbata Srikandi Mashyur organisation, said Muslims in Selangor had bowed to the infidels for allowing beer festivals and an alleged gay parade.

“Muslims are being oppressed… I see that there are segments in the Muslim community who fearful of the infidels.”

Darul Islah Malaysia Association (Perkid) president Masridzi Sat attacked DAP for “insulting” Hadi over Act 355.

“The pain in my heart, only Allah knows. They have reviled and insulted Tuan Guru (Hadi Awang) to the point of wasting 40 minutes of the time given by the Dewan Rakyat speaker.

“If my patience had run out, I would have kicked Lim Kit Sian for opposing Act 355,” he said.
