PETALING JAYA: Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim is attending PAS’ pre-election rally in Terengganu after all, but only to show support for the Islamist party.
The former Selangor mentri besar said he had accepted the invitation to attend the launching ceremony of the gathering, dubbed Fastaqim 2.0.
“I think it is only appropriate for me to attend the event to show support to my friends who share the same goal with me which is to unite Malaysians as a whole,” he said in a statement on Saturday.
Khalid, who was formerly with PKR before his unceremonious sacking from the party, was rumoured to be joining PAS by making an appearance at the gathering.
But sources close to him said such speculation was untrue, despite his close relationship with PAS leaders.
Khalid had previously said that he felt “indebted” to PAS whom he said was supportive of him when he was being ousted from the mentri besar position.
The Fastaqim 2.0 rally was meant as a display of the party’s strength before the general election.
PAS is aiming to gather 200,000 members and supporters for the main event on Saturday night.
