A 38-year-old man who confronted Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) enforcers for clamping his illegally parked car in Taman Segar, Cheras, was arrested by police.
The incident, which happened around noon yesterday, had gone viral after it was posted on Facebook.
Cheras OCPD Chong Kok Sin, in a statement, said the man was arrested at 6.30pm today at the Cheras district police headquarters after a DBKL enforcer involved in the incident lodged a police report.
"The suspect has been arrested and is being investigated under Section 186 and Section 506 of the Penal Code," he said in a statement today.
Section 186 concerns the obstruction of a public servant in discharging his public functions and carries a punishment of up to two years imprisonment or a fine of up to RM10,000 or both.
Section 506 concerns criminal intimidation and also carries a punishment of up to two years' imprisonment, a fine, or both.
Chong said the driver will be remanded tomorrow.
In the viral video of the incident, a man with a flat-top haircut and a fanny pack was seen shouting at two uniformed men for clamping his Perodua Myvi, illegally parked on the side of the road outside what appears to be Cheras Leisure Mall.
The man and the officers shouted at each other, while a number of bystanders can be heard egging them on, shouting “Pukul lah!” (Just hit him!).
The driver engaged in pushing and shoving with one of the enforcer, and later challenged him to take off his uniform for a fight in the middle of the road.
He also lashed out at a bystander who tried to intervene in a bid to defuse the situation.
Towards the end of the video, the driver was seen reaching for something in his car and later produced a stick.
Holding it behind his back, he then corners the enforcer against a lamp post.
The altercation did not escalate and the driver later drove away.
It is the second such video to have gone viral in a month.
Earlier in September, a woman had screamed at a Subang Jaya Municipal Council officer while brandishing a steering lock after the officer clamped her vehicle.- Mkini
