Khalid: I've done my best and I've no unfinished business

Outgoing inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar proudly declared today that he has done his best in his 41 years of service in the police force.
"And there is no unfinished business that I need to settle," Khalid in his speech at the handing over ceremony for the post of the top cop in Kuala Lumpur today.
Khalid said he would continue to serve alongside the police force, "in my own way, as long as I live".
On his successor, Special Branch chief Mohamad Fuzi Harun who replaces him as inspector-general of police, Khalid expressed confidence that Fuzi will bring the police force to success.
Thanking Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Khalid said the Zahid had given him support and trust for him to lead.
"Working as a police officer is a noble work in the jihad (struggle) for Allah. I had given my all and held on to loyalty.
"When we are loyal, insyaAllah, success will be ours," said Khalid, who officially retires tomorrow.
At a press conference later, Khalid simply expressed his appreciation to the media for their cooperation and support.
"Please give the same support to the new IGP. I don't need to talk about my achievements today," he added.
Asked whether he was interested in taking up a government position, Khalid simply said: "I think I've said what I needed to say."

At the press conference, Zahid, who is also deputy prime minister, called Khalid an "extraordinary" IGP.
"He's extraordinary because of his loyalty… Every problem he handled professionally," said Zahid.
Khalid was appointed IGP in 2013, replacing Ismail Omar.
There has been intense speculation that Khalid's tenure as IGP would be extended following the extension of tenures of the chief justice and court of appeal president. -Mkini
