PKR was fully aware that former Selangor Menteri Besar Muhammad Muhammad Taib was about to leave the party five days before the announcement was made.
According to Perak PKR chief Muhd Nur Manuty, the matter was made known during the party's political bureau meeting last week.
He added that Muhammad was spotted with former Selangor Umno bigwigs in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur before his defection.
"So we were aware of this," said Muhd Nur during a Pakatan Harapan ceramah in Selama, Perak.
He brushed off Muhammad's departure, describing him as "old newspaper" in Cantonese, and bid him good riddance.
On Sunday, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak had called for a "special" press conference at the Umno headquarters in what was billed as an important announcement.
He had rallied all of the party's supreme council members on short notice for the announcement, prompting speculation that something major was in store.
However, Najib's announcement that Muhammad was rejoining Umno after spending four years with the opposition was seen by many as an anti-climax.
Pakatan Harapan parties had brushed off the defection, citing how Muhammad had not contributed much during his short stint in the opposition.
Meanwhile, Muhd Nur urged voters from the Larut constituency to vote out Hamzah Zainuddin, because the constituency was still lacking basic infrastructure although the MP is a cabinet minister.
During the 2013 election, Hamzah retained the Larut seat by securing 55 percent of the vote, up from 52 percent in 2008.
The emcee for the ceramah was former entertainer Senerio star Hamdan Ramli.- Mkini
