Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has arrived at the Umno headquarters ahead of a highly anticipated announcement.
Najib did not speak to the media but immediately proceeded to the 38th floor of Menara Dato' Onn, Putra World Trade Centre, where the press conference will be held.
Only the mainstream media is allowed to cover the press conference while several online news portals, as well as international wires, were barred.
Journalists have also crowded behind the fence on the ground floor as top Umno leaders, including several chief ministers and menteri besars, begun arriving since 4pm amid a heavy downpour.
Also present was Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor was seen lingering on the ground floor as he welcomed the Umno top guns arriving at the tower.
However, he remained tight-lipped on what the press conference will be about, merely giving the thumbs up and reporters tried to shout questions at him from behind the fence.
