Najib living in fantasy world, says Wong Chen

The MP for Kelana Jaya laughs at Najib Razak's pledge to help strengthen the US economy when Malaysia is borrowing heavily from China to implement major projects.
wong-chen-najib-razak-donald-trump-1KUALA LUMPUR: Promising US President Donald Trump that Malaysia will help the US economy grow shows that Najib Razak is living in a fantasy world, according to Wong Chen.
The Kelana Jaya MP said Najib, during his meeting with Trump in the White House, told the US leader that Malaysia would buy more Boeing airplanes for Malaysia Airlines.
This, he noted, was despite the fact that the national airline needed a massive public bailout not long ago and had to let go pilots, stewards, ground crew and technicians.
Also, he said in a statement, Najib told Trump that Khazanah, with existing investments of about US$400 million in the US, would continue to invest more in the future.
Wong said: “Isn’t it just wonderful that in Najib’s fantasy world, Malaysia is such a ‘rich’ country that it can help to boost the US economy. Whilst we have been suffering a lacklustre and stagnant economy for the last decade, begging China for money, Najib is giving the impression to Trump that we have a lot of money to spend.
“I wonder what China’s leaders will have to say about lending money to Malaysia, so that Malaysia can then pass it on to the US.”
He said while he agreed with Najib’s pledge to fight the Islamic State and terrorists, Wong reminded him that Trump’s definition of a terrorist might not be the same as that of Malaysia’s.
“For all the bluster that will be played out by government and BN media in the next few days, on the scale more powerful than (hurricane) Irma hitting Florida, most rational Malaysians will see this ‘historic meeting’ as a joke of two tainted leaders,” he added.
He noted that according to the transcripts of the Najib-Trump meeting, the 1MDB scandal and the US Department of Justice’s probe into it were not mentioned. - FMT
