YOURSAY | 'Our constitution does not discriminate along religious or ethnic lines...'
The Analyser: Why are these issues not resolved before the Act is written? And what are the brilliant minds of Parliament doing if they allow something so straightforward to slip their minds during the debate?
One might almost conclude that the negligence is deliberate so that the government can definitely get its way through the controlled judiciary.
The bottom line is that there should be no such thing as an illegitimate child, and it should be the parents' right to decide what a child's name is, and for the National Registration Department (NRD) to record the parents' decision.
Anything else is nothing more than government/religious interference where it has no right to interfere.
Fair Play: This man-made law is totally flawed.
When a child is born out of wedlock, he or she is tarred for life. When a child is conceived as a result of a violent crime against a woman, he or she is illegitimate.
When a child's father is a convict, he or she is also a convict. When a child is born in jail, he or she is already a convict before he or she is even born.
And then, when you have learned men of the law who use their religious inclinations to interpret man-made religious laws, what do we think would be the end result?
Anonymous 2401191456463140: In such cases, common sense should rule.
Vgeorgemy: It seems the Federal Court is overstepping its constitutional authority. The Federal Court has failed the rakyat in explaining the valid constitutional reason for granting of such leave to the NRD.
Our constitution never discriminates the rakyat along religious or ethnic lines in the disbursement of basic justice.
Anonymous2287535934: Why do they want to make the peoples' lives difficult?
Basically: Love, companionship, caring for someone, are neither crimes nor sins. So how is one who has love, companionship, or care for another human being, albeit of the same sex, not allowed to do a “good deed” that is observing Muslim practices like fasting? Are they saying the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) should not fast?
Or that they should fast in isolation and not with their brethren? Strange that instead of encouraging fasting, they are discouraging LGBTs who want to be good Muslims.
It's not as if the event was a Woodstock-type orgy of excess, the "big gay iftar" was just a social gathering to share their religious convictions.
Anonnon: Silly Umno. Even LGBTs need to buka puasa after fasting. If Muslim LGBTs should not "mix up" the act of buka puasa with "practices banned in Islam" such as being homosexual and hanging around with other Muslim LGBTs (as opposed to actually practising homosexuality per se, since you can't buka puasa and engage in the act at the same time), then is Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Jamil Khir Baharom saying that Muslim LGBTs should not puasa at all, or that they shouldn't even be Muslims in the first place?
Anakraja: The way Jamil Khir is expressing it, it appears that he is not of sound mind. Jamil, LGBTs did not ask to be born like this, they are also Allah's creations. There are a lot of good deeds and services being done by them.
Just answer this, have you never been near a LBGT and shook his or her hand?
Drngsc: This is the problem with religions. They like to dish out a menu of instructions and their punishments.
Why not teach them how to live a good life and allow followers to exercise their free will? Just teach them and lead them, not just instruct and punish.
The Analyser: Not content with legislating fasting on the Muslim community, the government now wants to control the breaking of fast.
Before you know it, wife beaters and child molesters, petty thieves, shoplifters and minor corrupters, perpetrators of incest, and cooks and lazy workers will be prevented from breaking fast together.
If they want to stop the proliferation of LGBT people, then it's best they ban reproduction.
Whatsup: Instead of eliminating LGBT behaviour, they should make treasonous and destructive corruption and stealing the utmost top priority to eliminate.
Newday: LGBTs are spreading into every aspect of our existence. Their numbers must be up to at the least 0.001 percent of the population now. Yep, a real threat - not!
RCZ: People are hypocrites no matter how religious they profess to be. Malaysians are Malaysians. But if that is propounded, Umno and PAS would lose in politics, because race and religion are their only weapons. Take that away and they are actually weaponless.
Malaysians should stand up for all their fellow Malaysians to fight for a good life and for a good and honest government to provide them a good life.
Drngsc: They have got it wrong. For PAS, it is “manure politics”, not mature politics. They lack the "trustworthy" element. They only have the "negotiable" element. They have no principles, and everything can be settled.
Sleepy: Harapan believes the key to moving forward is racial integration and not division. Whether this will take place after GE14 we are not sure, but it will happen sooner than later as it involves the future of my beloved country. - Mkini
