Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak today announced that Putrajaya would provide RM30 million to upgrade all tahfiz schools in the country in the wake of a deadly fire that killed 23 people.
He said this was proof against allegations that private Islamic schools were not receiving government help.
"This is the first time the government has approved an allocation of RM30 million for all private tahfiz schools to improve infrastructure.
"This disproves allegations that the government doesn't help tahfiz schools in the country," he said.
The announcement was made during Najib's visit to the Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah at Kampung Datuk Keramat, Kuala Lumpur.
A fire broke out at the school yesterday, resulting in the death of 21 children and two teachers.
The accident took place when Najib was still abroad.
Najib had rushed to the scene immediately after addressing a crowd of supporters who gathered to welcome him at KLIA this evening. - Mkini
